Firsts in Politics- Fact of the Day (10/5)

In 1989, Julia Chang Bloch became the first Asian American U.S. Ambassador. Bloch, a Chinese American diplomat, was appointed to the kingdom of Nepal by George H.W. Bush and served as a diplomat until 1993. Bloch graduated Harvard University after her father, who was the first Chinese national to graduate from Harvard Law School. After her term, Bloch became the Group Executive Vice President at Bank of America, heading its Public Relations, Government Affairs, and Public Policy sectors. She is also the founder and current president of the US-China Education Trust which sponsors education and exchange programs for Chinese and American students.
