Student Issues
College is often a time when Asian American students revisit, explore, or discover their identity as Asian Americans. However, as Asian American students, one of the hardest tasks we have to do is balance our time between our studies and our various student organizations. As a student activist and an organizer, you might find yourself focusing on organizing more than seems necessary and neglecting your school work; yet at the same time, this organizing might give you a sense of fulfillment and affirmation to your Asian American identity and culture. ECAASU National Board understands this (we’ve been through it all too), and we would like to help you alleviate your stress. As the Student Issues Taskforce Chair, I’m here to give you a hand.
My current project deals with hate crimes that occur on college campuses. These hate crimes are unique, in that often the responsibility of organizing the response falls on the shoulders of students who are already heavily involved on their college campuses. Already they are busy with their school work and their own clubs, but they that somebody has to take up the mantle and stand against discrimination. For if they do not, who will? This project will be a guide on how to respond to hate crimes and to organize your campus to act against hate crimes. If you have been a victim of a hate crime, or if you have organized a response to a hate crime, I would love to hear your story! Contact me if you would like to talk.
The Student Issues Taskforce Chair is currently Clara Ng-Quinn, a senior at Cornell University. For information, feel free to contact her via email at studentissues@ecaasunational.org. Additional information about the Board members can be found under the Contact Us page.
