Political Awareness

Asian Americans are becoming increasingly more politically active in civil society today, presenting themselves not only as members of a different cultural heritage but also as an influential force in policy-making and community building. Equipped with the right to vote and to speak out, Asian Americans can address various political and social issues that affect our community, whether it’s the representation of Asian Americans in politics, racial discrimination on college campuses, or immigration policies.

ECAASU seeks to be an active part in shaping the political strength of Asian Americans, especially among young adults. The main project for ECAASU’s Political Awareness Taskforce this upcoming semester is addressing hate crimes on campus. Our goal is to solidify the forces and sync the voices of young Asian Americans, and our main strategy is to equip our students with a cohesive response system in addressing hate crimes. We will research the history of hate crimes on campus, communicate with student leaders of various universities as well as educators and political activists, and assemble a packet with all essential information to be distributed.

The Political Awareness Taskforce Chair is currently Quingan Zhou, a senior at Yale. For information, feel free to contact her via email at politicalawareness@ecaasunational.org. Additional information about the Board members can be found under the Contact Us page.
