THIS YEAR WE SEEK “INTROSPECTION”
We desire to equip the future generations of young Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders with the tools to speak out. As AAPIs, we are not silent. We need to take a deep look at ourselves and discover our own ambitions and responsibilities that will carry important implications on not only our society but our personal lives as well. This begins by becoming a thought leader, listening to both ends of the spectrum and engaging in raw uncomfortable dialogue which ultimately stems from being introspective of oneself. It is important to realize the power of our free speech and thought. It's impetus for the social change we desire so we can attain a community that was better than our past one.
WITH INTROSPECTION COMES "RECOLLECTION"
To recall and inspire us to explore the history and memory that is integral in shaping the present day experiences of our community. Understanding our shared AAPI identity means tracing the steps we have taken in order to contextualize current issues and our place in society. Workshops will dive into this historical context and all of what it has taken to arrive at where we are today and what it means for our future.
WITH RECOLLECTION COMES "FRAMEWORK"
With the framework to encourage us to delve deeper into ourselves and gain a firmer and more personal connection to our individual identity. By tackling the complexities of our truths, we hope to demystify how our AAPI identity works in tandem with our interest, choices, and beliefs to make us who we are. Workshops will be geared towards self-reflection and the intersection of our identities and our communities.
AND WITH FRAMEWORK COMES "ENGAGEMENT"
To challenge us to engage with our renewed understanding of ourselves and the AAPI community and apply it to real-life scenarios. Knowledge and theory act as a building block as we take what we learn to form intentional relationships and make meaningful impact with those around us. Workshops will seek to provide guidance and resources on how our identities can not only survive but thrive when interacting with the outside word.
