Fact of the Day (7/29)

Instead of Ellis Island, most Asian immigrants entered American through Angel Island Immigration Station. Essentially, the goal of the station was to limit Asians entering the country. Unlike Ellis Island, which processed immigrants in two to five hours, Angel Island kept people waiting for as long as two years. While U.S. officials tried to find reasons to deport the Asian immigrants, a few wrote poems in Chinese on the wall at the detention facility, some of which have been collected and put together.
