Shania is a Peranakan American immigrant from Singapore who moved to Cary, North Carolina at the age of five. She is currently a freshman and Benjamin N. Duke Scholar at Duke University, where she hopes to pursue Public Policy and Statistical Science. As the founder of the Triangle-Area Asian and Pacific Islander Student Union, she aims to spark complex conversations about AAPI perspectives and roles in America’s race relations among high school students. Shania first learned of ECAASU through the High School Leadership Development Program and is now leading the program in hopes of inspiring young student leaders to take interest in AAPI issues and realize the importance of their identity as it intersects with that of others. When she’s not working to empower the AAPI community, Shania can be found playing the violin, taking amateur photography, and struggling to learn to dance.
