Grow as a Leader with a National Organization

The High School Program (HSP) is an initiative by the East Coast Asian American Student Union (ECAASU) to empower and educate high school students (grades 9-12) interested in Asian American (A/A) issues. This virtual program will provide the space for participants to grow in their knowledge of their personal identities, and to enact positive change in their communities. Participants will also engage with a community of Asian American students who are excited about understanding the Asian American experience and exploration of identity. Participants will become more engaged in social and political affairs and help create an inclusive community for other A/A-identifying students to learn more about themselves and their histories.

GOALS OF THE PROGRAM: Participants will gain public speaking, storytelling, and advocacy skills through engagement with the program’s three core themes.

THEME ONE: IDENTITY & SELF

  • Participants will delve into their personal and cultural identity and how they can apply their experiences in their community and society.
  • Participants will understand the importance of intersectionality of their identities and how it relates to social and political contexts.

THEME TWO: SOCIAL MOVEMENTS

  • Participants will study past social movements of A/As and the social and political climate of that time and how that has affected current society.

THEME THREE: CAPACITY BUILDING

  • Participants will cultivate community with each other and the ECAASU National Board and Board of Directors.
  • Participants will work on a project based on an issue of their choice and go through a reflection process of their project.
  • Participants will be able to take the knowledge from this program and experiences and apply it to their communities and other aspects of their lives.

REQUIREMENTS/EXPECTATIONS:

  • Attend weekly online meetings (60-90 min) from March – May 2024 (exact schedule TBA with meeting times determined by student availability). Each meeting will consist of group discussions, speakers on A/A topics, and q&a.
  • Complete brief assignments before meetings in order for us to have more productive and involved discussions!
  • Contact Jonah 24 hours in advance if missing any meetings, and complete a short make-up assignment in place of that week’s discussion.
  • Create and present a project on an A/A topic/issue as the conclusion for the program, with support from ECAASU National Board members

APPLICATIONS ARE DUE SATURDAY FEB 10, 2024 AT 11:59 PM EST.
